What is RSS?

An RSS feed is a list of headlines encoded so that it can be easily used by another program or website. Programs that can read RSS files are called "news aggregators." They let you view headlines from dozens or hundreds of news sites at one time. Some web browsers, such as Firefox (Windows, Mac, and Linux) and Safari (Mac), include support for RSS.
Alternatively, there are several external RSS readers. Three free options include Amphetadesk (for Windows, Linux, or Mac), Awasu (for Windows) and NetNewsWire Lite (for Mac). Several commercial RSS readers are also available, including Newz Crawler (for Windows), Feed Demon (for Windows) and News Fire (for Mac).
