Fox News and CanWest are big players in North American media. They’re also laying waste to the very idea of credible journalism. Controlled by Rupert Murdoch and Leonard Asper respectively, the pair offered a systematically distorted view of the world in 2004. Fox, under the guise of patriotism, endlessly parroted the Bush White house fantasy of a link between 9/11 and Saddam – helping to grease the slide to war. CanWest, in a crusade to bias readers on the Israel-Palestine conflict, enraged Reuters by altering its newswire copy to cast Palestians in a negative light. For polluting our mental environment, Fox and CanWest deservedly earn the title: Mindfuckers of the Year.
